Jordan Peterson Pauses Work After CIRS Diagnosis
His daughter Mikhaila shared on X, "He was diagnosed with CIRS due to a genetic predisposition that causes the immune system to have an inability to identify and detoxify mold/bacteria in indoor air."

Dr. Jordan Peterson has stepped away from podcasts and events to treat Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), a genetic immune disorder he's battled unknowingly for years.
His daughter Mikhaila shared on X, "He was diagnosed with CIRS due to a genetic predisposition that causes the immune system to have an inability to identify and detoxify mold/bacteria in indoor air." She noted it's common in 25% of people, but Peterson has a severe form.
Symptoms worsened after exposure to a moldy environment while clearing her late grandfather's house. Mikhaila explained, "Over the last year or so he’s been feeling the impact of CIRS more and more. Recently he was exposed to a particularly moldy environment which severely flared symptoms."
CIRS triggers chronic inflammation from biotoxins like mold, leading to fatigue, pain, allergies, and sensitivities. Peterson's issues date to 2017, including food intolerances limiting him to meat, which helped but didn't fully control it. Mikhaila said, "This is the cause behind our food sensitivities and inability to tolerate anything other than meat (for 8 years now), multiple disorders and diseases in my family."
He's responding to treatment, though recovery is tough. Mikhaila added, "We’re hopeful for a somewhat speedy recovery given we at least know what’s going on, and there is treatment, and he’s responding well although it’s pretty rough."
This explains recent cancellations, like Brazil events and a delayed European tour, plus his rundown appearance. New "Answer the Call" episodes with Mikhaila will release on YouTube and platforms.
Mikhaila criticized medical oversight: "The fact that doctors don’t generally recognize that mold exposure in indoor air is causing chronic health issues is insane." She predicts wider recognition soon.
Peterson, known for guiding millions through challenges, receives prayers for full recovery.
