ICE Arrests Illegal Alien Serving as Police Officer in Illinois
The Hanover Park Police Department hired Bojovic, who graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy on August 22, 2025, and began 15 weeks of field training. At the time of arrest, he was on duty and armed, in violation of federal law prohibiting illegal aliens from possessing firearms.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Radule Bojovic, a 35-year-old Montenegrin national, on October 16, 2025, in Hanover Park, Illinois, where he was employed as a sworn police officer. Bojovic entered the United States legally in 2015 on a visa but overstayed it by more than 10 years, rendering his presence unlawful.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Chicago Field Office Director Sam Olson stated, “Illegal aliens are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms — full stop. This is the second known instance in recent months of a local police department hiring an illegal alien and unlawfully issuing him a firearm while on duty in violation of federal law. It is alarming how local jurisdictions continue to disregard federal law to the detriment of their communities.”
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said, “Radule Bojovic violated our nation’s laws and was living ILLEGALLY in the United States for 10 years—what kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It’s a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm. A law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law.”
This marks the second such arrest; in July 2025, ICE detained Jon Luke Evans, a Jamaican national overstaying his visa, who served as an officer in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, after he attempted to purchase a firearm illegally.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem criticized Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker's sanctuary policies, stating they allow illegal aliens to infiltrate communities and law enforcement. The department terminated Bojovic's employment following the arrest.
